Please join us in Charleston, SC for a conversation on the changing nature of Charleston and the need to protect African American families and communities from further displacement. We will seek to understand the economic drivers leading to current displacement while identifying the policies and investments needed to allow communities to thrive. Our first hour will be spent hearing the perspective and experience of our panelists. Following, we will engage in small group discussion to identify necessary interventions and how they may be realized to produce better outcomes. This dialogue will inform MDC’s next State of the South Report as we seek to understand this trend as it unfolds in various communities across the South.
Panelists:
Richard Habersham, Phillips Community Association President
Nashonda Hunter, Executive Director, The Charity Foundation
Bernie Mazyck, Founder/President/CEO, South Carolina Association for Community Economic Development
Opening and Closing Poetry by Marcus Amaker
The Avery Research Center for African American History & Culture
125 Bull Street, Charleston, SC 29424
