|  | Educational Equity As we recognize Autism Awareness Month in April, MDC Learning for Equity: A network for Solutions is sharing information about who is being impacted by learning differences, specific learning disabilities, neurodivergence, and autism. Roughly 20% of people have some kind of learning difference, including specific learning disabilities or other types of neurodivergence. In the public school system, 7.5 million students (15%_ are served under the Individuals with Disabilities in Education Act (IDEA) - with 32% of IDEA students receiving accommodations for dyslexia or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). 15% of IDEA students receive accommodations for autism. Nationwide, 2.5% of people have been diagnosed with autism, with 50-70% of autism diagnoses also accompanying an ADHD diagnosis. This year, more than 1.6 million North Carolinians were eligible to use Direct File – a new way to file your taxes directly with the government, for free.
